Man charged over Moama murders

A man has been charged with murder by police investigating the deaths of two people at Moama earlier this week.
Detectives from Deniliquin Local Area Command and State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad established Strike Force Kennedia* to investigate the deaths of a man and a woman, whose bodies were found on a property on Old Deniliquin Road about 9am on Wednesday (12 November 2014).
The bodies, which have been identified as that of a 36-year-old Moama man and a 36-year-old Mathoura woman, had sustained gunshot wounds.
A 21-year-old man was arrested on an outstanding first instance warrant for a traffic offence yesterday morning (Friday 14 November 2014).
He was taken to Deniliquin Police Station where he was interviewed and charged overnight with two counts of murder.
The man, from Echuca, has been refused bail and will appear in Deniliquin Local Court today (Saturday
15 November 2014).
Deniliquin Local Area Commander, Superintendent Paul Condon, paid tribute to the local community.
“I want to thank the local community for all the support provided to investigators during this inquiry,” Supt Condon said.
“And I credit those who were involved and provided assistance.”
